It’s that time of year again…
Franco-manitobains around the city have grabbed their capots, moccasins and certainly their ceinture fléchées to proudly celebrate the Festival du Voyageur.
On Saturday, February 20, 2016, I got the pleasure to attend an event I hold very closely to my heart: The Jigging Competition.
My sisters and I competed in this competition for many years growing up. Our mom always encouraged us to express our French blood through dancing, as she had herself for many years.
My mom thought us some basic steps and we’d practice them for weeks leading to the competition. Our hard work payed off as we each took our turn to win the competition. I will certainly pass on the jigging tradition to my children some day.
Anyways, enough about my childhood… This year is about these courageous competitors! They each did such a fantastic job and it was great seeing all their hard work demonstrated on stage.
If you were unable to attend the competition this year, or the Festival du Voyageur in general, I strongly recommend it. It’s a great way to learn more about Manitoba’s French history and to simply have a blast.
It’s too bad Festival doesn’t last all year!
Here are some photos of my experience at the 45th Jigging Competition at the Festival du Voyageur! Enjoy!!
Til’ next week, HÉHO!
